Over the past months Diana and Matthias have been working on an assessment commissioned by the DKKV Geschäftsstelle e.V., the German Committee for Disaster Reduction, and Futouris e.V., the Sustainability Initiative of the German Travel Industry, as part of a project that aims to build destination resilience and promote sustainable development in emerging economies.
Specifically, this involved an assessment on the incorporation of resilience into tourism destination certification , for which a series of expert interviews with certification representatives were conducted as well as a virtual expert workshop on destination resilience.
The project highlighted the importance that certification providers give to the topic of risk and resilience, with suggestions on strengthening resilience destination criteria and adapting existing resilience tools for destinations.
